BAR SPOTLIGHT

La Chupa Rosa (formerly Red's)

by L.A. Dre

Ah yes, this fine establishment is a diamond in the rough. What appears to be your local neighborhood paisa bar is actually the scariest lesbian bar in L.A. Are you looking for pretty lipstick lesbians from the Palms or cute hipster lesbians from Girl Bar? Well don't come here. The ladies who frequent this place work construction jobs or are weird P.E. teachers. They don't fuck around. They can out drink you and beat the shit out of any man you know.

With an interesting jukebox that plays everything from salsa to rock en español to '80s disco, you might even be able to get your groove on and fall in love with a Mexican k.d. lang wannabe, like I did. (Damn, she was hot!) There is a great outdoor backroom area where you can smoke and drink while shooting pool. Beers here are super cheap and the bartender is the coolest motherfucker you will ever meet. Oscar is his name and he is more than happy to serve you with his bad English and awesome lisp. Just think of Rip Taylor, but in Spanish.

This bar is not for everyone, though. I brought my white homeboy here once and that fool was straight mortified. If you have an open mind, though, you will realize how cool this place really is.
